Tony Pierro was my best friend's uncle and I called him "Uncle Tony". Amazing man. Took care of himself until he was 100, then moved in with his son. Was sorry he died. Fun to be around.

David, " What's in a name " would be a perfect oral story for NPR. It's great to know the
Ellis Island " greeters " were not in the name changing business..... so really each immigrant story of name changes could be unique and worth looking further into. Thanks for the interesting blog. John Braseth

I absolutely agree with your commentary. Unfortunately I"m sort of plebeian intellectually and what I find myself really wanting is how to make Struffoli.

Well what a surprise. I'm actually in Christchurch helping out my new partners (we have been together a year) family in the Earthquake. All of Dad's epidemiology stuff that he drilled into me has been a boon as we compulsively sanitise our way through the worst of it. But as usual his advice has been solid. Everyone is doing okay by the way.
Anyway we were searching for some stuff to explain to them who the Colonel was and found this amazing piece. It brings a tear to the eye in a good way. Thankyou David. I am glad your book has come out. I trust it will be available in Australia??
